Welcome To RHB Photography!

This is the post excerpt.

Welcome to RHB Photography. This blog will be showcasing some of my own work and it will also show some of my intrests and some of my inspiration. I will also show some of my assessment tasks and photos I have taken for them. I will be posting my progress on here and updating everyone on what I do.

I took this photo in the car using my Phone. I like this photo because it is a very good example of shallow depth of field, where the front of the photo is clear and the back of the photo is blurry.

This photo is also a good example of shallow depth of field. The background is blurred while the rest is clear. In this photo, there is a mirrow showing the road and I think that this is also a good feature.

Montage

Screen Shot 2017-10-18 at 8.09.06 pm.png

When my photography class went to Cockatoo Island we were able to take photos of different buildings and nature things around the area. Therefore we took photos of multiple industrial buildings. When we got back to school we were given the task to create a montage of 2 or more photos and add different features into it. In my photo I have used 2 main photos for the background of 2 industrial buildings. On the left side there is one big main photo and on the right there is another but its just mainly one wall. In the first photo on the right there was one small plank type of thing that I have copy and pasted 2 more times to create a pattern where they progressively gain in size. Also in the first photo where all of the windows are, I have also added a water effect that I got from a photo I took of the river we travelled on while we were getting there. I felt that this made the wall look brighter and I thought that it would stand out more. With that same wall I used the photoshop tool where we could erase the water feature from certain parts and I erased where the water went over the windows and I also erased some parts outside of the window box to create a type of pretend reflection that the window could of made.

My walk / Nepean Rowing Club

A couple of weeks back, I went to the Nepean Rowing Club at Nepean River and I took a variety of photos testing out skills such as aperture, reflection and shadow. At Nepean River, I was able to take many photos of reflection using the water. I also took photos using the greenery around the river and I took a couple of photos testing out the aperture. While I was at Nepean River, I was focusing on the nature and environmental aspect of it and thats what I took most of my photos of.

IMG_7920 copy.JPG

In this photo, it shows the nature/environmental part of Nepean River. It shows the tree branches being reflected into the rivers water. Also, this photo shows some leftover rubbish in the water which is a warning sign to us saying that we are ruining the beautiful nature that is around us.IMG_7911 copy.JPG

In this photo, I practised using aperture to take a photo where the front half is clear but the background is blurry. This photo relates to nature/environment because of the greenery that is shown. If you look closely you can also see a bird in the middle of the background. This is also a symbol of nature.

This photo is a nice photo because of the reflections. Its almost looks symmetrical. This photo relates to the nauture/environement theme simply because of the water and the leaves that are left over in the water. Also, at the top of the image, you can see the reflections of the trees that are on the opposite side of the river.

Cockatoo Island

Unknown-1.jpeg

A week ago, I went to Cockatoo Island and I took many different types of photos of the island. I also took a few photos when I was on the ferry to go there. At Cockatoo Island, there are many opportunities to take photos of the islands different type of patterns on their buldings. There are parts of the island where there are medium sized holes in the buildings and if they are blurred, you can clearly see the city and the water. There are also different types of brick patterns on the walls of the buildings that make great photos.

In this photo, there is a clear shot of the reflection from the puddle. The puddle shows a red crane. This photo also shows a plastic drink bottle which seems to have been left there. This drink bottle shows that the people that have been coming to this wharf have been littering. This photo also shows the water drops.

In this photo, you can see the shadows from the window that is shown on the floor. It also makes a pattern. This photo shows how the shadows can be sometimes interesting and creative. I like this photo because I feel like it relates to the historical theme because of the concrete wall and the window. Screen Shot 2017-06-15 at 12.10.08 pm

In this photo, I like how the crane sticks out in the blue sky. I’ve also made sure that you can see the rust in the crane. The natural sky in the photo makes the photo look even better. This photo also relates to the historical theme that is shown throughout Cockatoo Island. The crane shows most of the ‘ historical ‘ part simply because of its rust.

Paper Sculptures

A couple of weeks ago, my class started working on paper sculptures that we were going to take photos of. When we created the sculptures, we made sure that out sculptures had many different types of straight and curvy lines to make perfect shadows. Once we finishded making the paper scultpures, we hung up a big piece of white paper and we started taking the photos using different types of light sources. My group and I used a flash light as a light source because we felt light it created a better looking shadow for our photo.

This photo clearly shows the shadow that was caused because of the flash light. When we were taking this photo, the flash light was on a angle and that is what is causing the shadow to be to the side. The flash in this photo helps make good shadows for the circular paper sculptures.DSC_0760.JPG

In this photo, we placed the flash flight on the right side of the scultpure so we could have the shadow on the opposite side.

Aperture Priority

Examples of a wide depth of field:

This photo is a wide depth of field because all of the objects are in focus.

Examples of a low depth of field:

This photo is a low depth of field because some objects are in focus while others arent.

photo 2.jpg

In this photo, the pot filled with the brushes are not in focus while the bottles are. This is an example of low depth of field.

Extra Photos

When I have spare time, I take photos of some things around me. At my house, I have a pond so I took some photos that show reflection.

Here are 2 examples:

I have also taken photos of a vase with the shadow behind it,

Here are some examples:

Exposure Experiments: Shutter Priority

Last week, we were able to photograph some dancers. Here are some examples of fast and slow shutter speed that I took.

Example of a fast shutter speed (1000, 500)

editied photo1616161.jpg

In this image, it is clear that the photo is a fast shutter speed because most of the lines in this photo are clear and straight. There aren’t many blurry parts in this photo.

Example of a slow shutter speed (15, 8)

DSC_0311.jpg

  • In this image, you can clearly see how the photo is taken with a slow shutter speed. Most of the movement is blurry and there are not many clear lines.

2 Photographers that inspire me

Trent Parke Unknown.jpeg

Trente Parke is a Australian Photographer. He was born in 1971 and brought up in Newcastle, NSW. He started taking photos at only 12 years old. He has been very successful in his work creating a number of photography books and he has also won a number of national and international awards including 4 world press photo awards. Trente Parke is considered to be one of the most innovative and challenging photographers of his generation. His work offers a more emotional and psychological potrait of family life and Australia that is sometimes, darkly humerous. I enjoy looking at Trents photos because they are very inspiring and they can tell a story. The photos have also been taken very well.

Here are some of Trent Parkes famous works.

Henri Cartier-Bresson

220px-Henri_Cartier-Bresson.jpg Henri Cartier-Bresson was a french humanist photographer and he was considered as a master of candid photography. He was born in 1908 and he died in 2004. He developed the genre of street photography  and his work has inspired many photographers.

As a child, Henri took many photos when he was on a holiday using a box brownie then he later used a 3×4 inch view camera. I like Henris photos because as they are old and different, they show and tell different stories.
